Coronation Street has been a huge part of my life since I was knee high to a grass hopper I remember sitting on the couch with my mum watching Corrie as young as four or five and loving all the brash british ladies on the show.
I'd giggle when the likes of Bet Lynch would mouth off at a punter at the Rovers return and say that she was funny. Her beehive hairdo , her leopard skin printed clothing and her huge earrings always stand out in my mind as one of my favourite memories watching the show.
Elsie Tanner was another bright spot on the show with her equally brash manner . Elsie was the mother that was frustrated with her children one child was in prison and came out not having an luck finding a job while the other left her husband because he didn't want her to get a job and to earn her own money.
When they were making the movie about the creation of the show they hired my favourite Eastenders actress Jessie Wallace to play Pat Phoenix who portrayed Elsie Tanner. Jessie was fanstastic as Pat and nailed every scene she did playing the street's favourite firey red head.
Elsie and Bet were labeled the tarts with the heart on the show always dating the wrong kind of men and getting into scrapes that they had to get themselves out of.
Vera Duckworth was another one who you just couldn't avoid laughing at when she slapped her husband Jack over the head for ticking her off or mouthing off at the neighbours for doing stuff that disturbed her peace and quiet.
Blanche Hunt was another lady you just couldn't stop gasping and laughing at when she would tell people off and give them a dose of some home truths and give them a reality check.
Blanche was a gossiper and delighted in going to see her neighbours being sent down in court for a crime they had committed.
All of these ladies are gone from the show but they left a legacy behind them that carries on the Coronation Street tradition of bad girls in our wake.
Tracey Barlow is hell on earth , once a bright energetic girl, but her parents constant bickering and cheating on one another just pushed her over the edge and she has become the bitter twisted girl she is today.She is not a girl who you want to cross or you may be on the wrong side of the law , accused of something you didn't do , or taunted to get into a fight with her.
Becky Grainger Macdonald is another girl you have to watch out for Becky she tries to be a good girl but generally nothing ever works out for good for her. She constantly gets herself into messes that displeases her husband Steve and her mother in law Liz.
When Leanne Barlow ( nee Battersby) first came on the show at the age of 16 she was a Geril Haliwell wanna be ( Pun absolutely intended). Leanne and her mouthy parents and younger sister were the neighbours from hell but they added that extra something that made everyone laugh.
Rosie Webster eldest daughter of Kevin and Sally is a spoiled , selfish little girl whom at twenty hasn't quite grasped the fact that not everything revolves around her. She is a girl that I sometimes wish I could reach through the tv screen and slap the crap out of.
Carla Connor is another bad girl , she is a sophisticated, dark beauty with dark eyes , but she is a vixen who will sleep with her friends husbands and make no apologies for it.
When these weatherfield fire crackers are around you better run for cover , its hand bags at dawn and floor show you will never forget.
